obsessiveness

Since we bought our house several years ago, our bedroom has looked the same. We never painted or bought new furniture, and just a few months ago, we finally took down the old owner's window treatments. They were this maroon synthetic silk with gold finials. Pretty bad, but it took us years to remove them. That got us going, and we painted it a little while later. I didn't like it as soon as we began to apply it - just didn't look right. I thought maybe it would grow on me. Then, the window treatments that I ordered came in, and I love them, but they look terrible with the paint. So, instead of ordering a different color, I want to repaint the whole room. I hate it when this happens, because D gets super pissed. So I didn't say anything, and then we painted the bathroom.
I.hate.it.
Today, I got some new paint swatches, um, about 20 of them, because I am going to repaint both the bedroom and bathroom.
And let me add that I hate painting, but I don't want to pay anyone to do something that easy.

This is what I obsess about when we aren't actively TTC.

I love decorating (by myself and with my own style) but I once hired an interior decorator to help me choose paint colors. I can agonize over which color "sand" to paint a wall for ages. It was the best money I ever spent on my house and even years later I am pleased with every color she recommended. Happy painting. You'll have to post pictures when you are done.

it's funny, i would always get that way on a break too.

i was a big believer in painting ourselves, seemed like a waste to hire someone, but i have to say after we had a painter do our stairwell and three story foyer (we couldn't reach), i may never go back to doing it myself again. hallelujah, and ultimately, not even that expensive.

Oh we are serial re-painters. I hate painting too, but it's a stupid thing to paint for, especially since my husband's pretty good at it. Plus when you finally like the color, it can provide some instant gratification. I agree with Ms. P - definitely post pictures!!

I rent, so I live in a white walled world.

I *could* paint, but then I'd have to pay for it to be painted moon-white again when we leave. Urgh.

Besides, yes, painting does suck.

Maroon and gold, huh? Nice. :-)

And, I agree with Sarah--we always insisted on painting ourselves. Then, when we moved to our new house, we have two rooms with vaulted ceilings that we couldn't reach, so we got them painted. It was fabulous. And, in the end, not nearly as expensive as the doctors appts for the neck injuries we otherwise would have sustained. :-)

I LOVE decorating. Really love it. It cheers me up. It is such a nice feeling to change something. Wish I was closer, I could come and help!

Everytime I hear the word "swatches" in my head I regress into my juvenile self. I always think of the South Park episode where Cartman shows off his "poop swatches". Gotta love "baby green".

I have had some kind of house related project going on in the past 3 years when I haven't been cycling. It is my way of focusing on something, anything besides infertility.

I want to paint my bedroom, but my husband refuses. Sigh.

Decorating is a fabulous distraction from cycling. I don't know what I would have done all winter without my house to plan for.

I second the comment about a decorator. It's worth paying for a half hour of their time to help you choose the right shade... costs about as much as two more paint colours would. Good luck!
